By completing these project, I am able to integrate architectural design and research through a specific case study, supporting students’ design through extensive research within the framework of sustainability design in Asia. Besides, I am able to culminate in the production of the study; collection, indexing and evaluation of information; analysis of information; compilation and organization of study; writing of study; assembly of illustration and text; design of layout; binding and presentation. I have also developed thinking and problem solving skills as we have to do a lot of research on this building.

Project 2

DOCUMENTATION STUDY

The project involves a group of 5 studying the streets in Asian city to undersand the historical and sosial aspects of a city by examining the development  of tradition, modernization and globalisation of streets.

The paper has to be presented in the form of architectural iconography, a semiotic interpretation based on visual elements. We were required to visit the selected streets in the Asian City to identify the architectural elements as visuals/ symbols that construct the semiotic interpretation of the streets, or its icongraphy. These semiotic interpretation may be based on culture, architecture and traditions which may have changed in the past decades due to modernisation and globalisation.

The street that we had chosen is Jonker Street (Jalan Hang Jebat).

By completing these project, we have developed critical perspectives on architecture and urbanism in situations where tradition, modernity and globalization intersect through an exploration of the history of South, Southeast and East Asian architecture as well as understanding of selected aspects of Asian architectural and urban design through first-hand experience gained through a study visit to an appropriate local or overseas location relevant to the theme. Besides, communication, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills also have been trained as we were doing this in group.
